A team of two students from the German Department of Grade 2019 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Bai Yixuan and He Jiahao, won the Second PLace Team Award and  three Individual Awards, namely, The Best Pronunciation and Intonation Award, The Best Female Debater Award and The Best Persuasion Award in the 13th National German Debate Competition for College Students Majoring in German, which was held online on September 17th. The competition attracted more than 150 participants and teachers from 48 well-known universities such as Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University and so on. 

The National Debate Competition for College Students Majoring in German is the largest, most influential and most professional competition for German majors in colleges and universities in China. It is also an important platform for students majoring in German to exchange ideas with each other. Since joining in the competition, the German major students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University have won successive awards and achieved good results. 
This competition is another gathering of German majors from all universities after the verbal combat in Jinan City in 2019. The debate involved various topics such as culture, education, media, digitalization, gender equality, and personality development. 

With strong arguments, clear logical thinking and fluent language expression, Bai Yixuan and He Jiahao stood out among the 48 teams, entered the quarterfinals and won the Second Place Team Award. It is worth mentioning that the team of Shanghai Jiao Tong University made an almost clean sweep of all the Individual Prizes of the competition, with He Jiahao winning The Best Pronunciation and Intonation Award for his idiomatic spoken German, Bai Yixuan winning The Best Female Debater Award and The Best Persuasion Award by impressing judges from both China and Germany with her meticulous thinking and sharp expression. 

The excellent performance of the team in the competition showed the elegant demeanor of the SJTU students, and also fully reflected the advanced talent cultivation concept and excellent teaching quality of the German major of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Fan Likun, the team leader and supervisor, who has accumulated rich experience in the competitions, worked together with the foreign teacher Till Tommel to carry out high-quality sprint training, which ensured the stable performance of the team.
